How to Dominate Your Fitness Goals This Year
Every year at the end of December, millions of people make a common goal. Some sort of fitness goals. It’s a new year and a new beginning.
“This year I’m going to get in shape.”
There is a great chance you have been there yourself. I know I have. Many times.
Making fitness goals isn’t always a bad idea. For many of us, improving our health is something we should definitely consider.
So, if you have decided to make fitness goals a part of your New Year’s resolutions, where do you start?
MAKE REALISTIC FITNESS GOALS
One thing to keep in mind is to make realistic fitness goals that you can actually achieve. Nothing will make you quit a new adventure more quickly than a lofty goal that you never had a shot at.
If you don’t currently go to the gym at all, a fitness goal of going to the gym every day would not be a realistic goal. Maybe start a little more attainable and ease yourself into 3 days a week and go from there.
If you go in too much at the beginning, you may be able to keep up at the beginning, but you will more than likely experience some sort of burnout. This will make hitting your fitness goals extremely difficult.
SMALL WINS ARE KEY TO FITNESS GOALS
It is proven that seeing success will help keep you motivated to achieve your goals. This is no different with fitness goals.
If you make an achievable goal like losing 5 lbs in the first month and hit your goal, you are way more likely to keep going.
Why is that?
Because seeing success tells you that you CAN in fact do this. It is no longer a myth. Instead of still talking about it, you made it happen!
This is amazing, but it’s just the beginning. Once you hit that first fitness goal you can’t stop. You must keep moving on to the next goal.
Make another achievable goal (or maybe you made a few consecutive goals to start) and keep the process going. You already achieved one, why couldn’t you achieve the next fitness goal?
It is important to make multiple goals at the beginning so that you don’t have to think about it once you hit your goal. You just move to the next one. This will help you stay on track and keep you working toward something.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SUPPORT
Most things are more fun with friends. The same goes with fitness goals.
Odds are, you have someone who is similar to you in fitness and can probably get on board with whatever your goals are.
That is AMAZING! Not only will you have fun, but it will be way easier to stick to your goals.
On days you don’t really want to go to the gym (and there will be those days), this person can make sure you get there. And I have no doubt that you will be able to return the favor at some point in the future.
If you don’t have someone to physically workout with you, make sure you tell your fitness goals to those who care about you. They will be able to cheer you on and encourage you along the way.
Some people may feel embarrassed to talk about these things with people, and I completely understand. However, I would almost guarantee that being vulnerable and sincere with close family and friends about something like this would end positively.
ACTION IS KEY
The last thing to keep in mind is to keep going. Just do something.
Anything is better than nothing when it comes to fitness goals. You may not crush it every time you go to the gym, and that is alright.
Going and only doing half of what you intended to do is way better than skipping it and doing nothing.
Getting to the gym is seriously half the battle. If I had a dollar for every time I didn’t want to go to the gym but ended up being very thankful I went, I wouldn’t need my job.
There are supplements that can help you get there and feel motivated too. If you have trouble sleeping, try something like DreamAid Go to help you get to sleep (you can find my review on it here). Or maybe you need a kickstart when you are feeling tired. Try picking up a pre workout such as Ghost (you can find my review here).
Just show up and make progress from the day before. You will be hitting your fitness goals in no time.
KEYS TO ANY GOAL
These keys are not exclusive to fitness goals. You could apply these ideas to any goals as a plan for success.
Make a realistic goal, get some small wins to start, have a support system, and get moving!
That last part is so crucial and what I would encourage you to do! Get moving!
You don’t have to wait for January 1st. You can start right now and get going on your fitness goals.
